Reverse Engineering: Visual Design - Essential Questions

1. The language of design is a style that guides the design of a complement of products or architecture.
2. Visual design elements are aspects of a product that make it visually appealing to the consumer.
3. Visual design principles are the guidelines or known laws that visually designing can and should follow to make it visually appealing.
4. Certain color combinations, familiarity, and user friendliness all add to an object's appearance.
5. People associate these things because usually a product that looks expensive and advanced will function well.
6. The gestalt principle defines visual patterns in categories of similarity, proximity, closure, figure and ground. The human identifies well with all of these things and this idea can be used to make items aesthetically pleasing.
7. Graphic design is the designing of digital items while product design deals with real things.
8. Demographic research can let people know what kind of people buy what kind of things. This can be used to target your consumers.
9. A graphic designer must know the demographics of their audience so that they can know who and what kind of people their are selling to.
10. These are used to capture the audience's attention by providing aesthetically pleasing and interesting looking items to the audience.

Content is King

1. I have a passion for football.
2. ESPN has used the internet to advertise all of their stuff.
3. I could see myself blogging about sports or music.

Visual design: elements and principles

I was absent during this assignment, I do not know what the 6 visual designs are or the 5 visual design principles. If i can make it up just let me know.

Reverse Engineering: Mechanicnal Product - Functional Analysis

1. The primary purpose of the item is to cut things.
2. My educated guess on how scissors work is that the blades slice the paper or whatever material you're cutting. The handles and blades simultaneously move apart and together make a cutting motion every time they are closed.
3. The system inputs are the scissors and the material you're cutting. The intended product function is to cut things. The outputs would be the cut up material. I couldn't get the picture to post.
4. The blades, nut, and handle are visible.
5. I can identify everything going on because all components are visible.

Functional Analysis

The purpose of this item is to cut paper and other thin materials. The blades do the cutting, the nut holds it all together and allows it to move, and the handle gives the operator something dull and comfortable to hold on to. The target audience is very broad; many people use scissors, not a specific group.

Visual Analysis

The elements of the scissors are mostly visible in all of the pictures. The handle, blades, and nut are all apparent.

1. What are trends? Why is it important to identify them prior to graphic design?
A trend is something that is popular for that time period. It is important to identify trends because that means you know what your audience likes, which would make your advertisement for appealing.
2. How does human nature play a role in how a product is marketed to a specific demographic group? When marketing in a certain area that is populated by a certain kind of person it is good to know what they are interested in and not interested in, by knowing that it will be much easier to pull your audience in with whatever your trying to sell or advertise.

3. How is a potential audience identified? I think an audience is identified through their ethnic group and their "trends".
4. What must you discover about the target audience prior to graphic design?
Prior to graphic design you must discover the kinds of things this audience is interested in, their age, and know when certain people buy certain things throughout the year.
